Ep.6 Sundown Lostblog:
Now I have had a chance to recover from the final 10 minutes of this episode, here are some of my thoughts.
AWESOME episode, although there was no real answers at all in this episode, I loved it! I was imagining what someone would make of it if they had never watched Lost and honestly, not a lot, but as we fans have invested so much time and effort into these characters lives evolving over 6 years, it was incredible to watch “The Beginning of the End” actually begin for real. It was shocking and chilling to watch it all unfold, The montage at the end literally left me speechless.
I will continue to ignore whats going on in the ALT reality again as this is not REAL, I’m just noting the differences & clues as intended by the writers and not thinking about it too hard! Too many possibilities in this timeline are giving me brain ache, so back to reality and to Hell Island:
Dogen, we will miss you, it was good while it lasted, mental fight scene, by killing Dogen, Sayid knowingly allowed Smokey in to kill everyone in the temple. Huh? What is the Ash For then? When Sayid was drowned in the pool he came back to life, infected, will Dogen come back? Sadly I don’t think so. If Dogen had killed Sayid, what would that mean for his son as he looked at the baseball? Promising to save one’s son but then telling that person they can never see their child again is pretty cruel. Just like Juliet’s sacrifice for her sister, that Jacob dude is one cruel MF!

We see Sayid’s shift to the darkside after killing Dogen, it’s quite a scary look in his eyes and he looks like he likes it, or atleast accepted his fate. Sayid says to Dogen ”I’m a good man” whenever someone says they are good, they are bad, Old Sayid would never say to someone he was good. Who else kept saying they were the good guys? Nadia is key here, the love that keeps him grounded but also a woman he believes himself unworthy of in the alternate timeline. A woman sacrificed by Jacob to get Sayid to come to the Island and manipulate him and fLocke offering him Nadia happiness again in his evil temptations.
“You can have anything you want, anything your heart desires.”
If Sayid had stabbed John Locke with the mystical dagger before he had the chance to speak, Would Dogen’s plan have worked?
The boomerangs that Sayid gives to his niece and nephew are nice metaphors, each time you throw it, it takes a slightly different course, but always ends back at the same point.
The “Cooking with Keamy.” scene was daft, but another good chance to show badass Sayid off with his dilemmas and kick Keamy’s arse, I never liked that bloke anyway.

Cindy sure was easily swayed wasn’t she, after everything all these ‘Smothers’ (Smoke Monster Others) have been through they just give up on their beliefs, their way of life and God to sell their souls to the Devil without a fight? What? Why? I’ve lost all respect for that bloody trolley dolly, she’s just as shallow as most of the stewardesses I knew at BA.
What’s up with one-liner Sun? Is she there just for decoration these days, It’s got to be Jin’s name on the cave wall/lighthouse not Sun, she is pathetic. Is Jin free to join Team Jacob or is he already under fLocke’s influence, will Sun join him at Team Evil, or will Jin join Sun at Team Jacob? Sorry, I’ve lost interest.

llana’s role is definitely Princess Leia from Star Wars, Princess and Daughter to the King! I won’t say any more. (nudge nudge, wink wink, Lizy)
Once more, the opportunity to finally name the MIB is provided… but Claire refers to him only as ”You Know Who”. Who? The Man with no name? Lucifer? Dogen says: “He will come to you as someone you know… someone who has died.” That’s one major answer confirmed. There was nothing more creepier than Claire’s haunting rendition of ”Catch a falling star” in the pit and in the final scenes:”He’s coming Kate… He’s coming and you can’t stop him!” and if Smokey don’t get you, I will cut your head off, You Bitch! - Watch your back Kate.
That funny look fLocke gives Kate at the end got me thinking a lot. He cocks his head to the side, as if to say Really? You, Kate? Like a dog (or beast) cocks his head when looking a little more carefully at something. He appeared to accept her cautiously, but Kate won’t join team Evil, even if she is HOT! She is just as shocked as the rest of us and is just observing the Evil Incarnate make his moves. Please don’t follow the Leader Kate and If you do, I hope it’s the worst mistake MIB ever made. Kate is Jacob’s secret weapon. That weapon is No.51 not one of the core numbers but still a candidate and a VERY Important pawn in the game of Lost. Jacob has a loophole of his own, and like most villains, the Man In Black’s ego blinds him of the unsuspecting threat to his plan—Kate.

Unlike the vast majority of fans, I LOVE KATE! and always have. If my Kate turns out to save everyone’s souls and help defeat MIB I will be a happy man, she would be a much better Hero than Jack anyway. Go Kate!
The main theme was Temptation and about making deals with the Devil, you cannot ignore the obvious storyline of Temptation in the Garden of Eden for Adam & Eve. The story is ultimately not about morals, good & evil, or even temptation, It is about the creation of our Physical Universe with the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil representing opposites that exist in a physical world, Yin & Yang and consequences such as Cause & Effect. The Serpent can also symbolise ‘Time’ that also only exists in the physical world, the symbol of the snake with its tail in its mouth is known as Ouroboros and represents the repeating cycle of time, an important Symbol seen in Lost.

The only way MIB can break free of his chains and whatever took him out of his original form is to destroy the Island, he has no plans to actually leave the Island in any way that we can imagine.

Ok, so if MIB is The Devil - Evil Incarnate, maybe, just maybe Lost is attempting to re-tell the classic story of Good vs Evil and demonstrate that Satan isn’t truly Evil, but a necessity in God’s Materialistic World (The Universe) created from the time of Adam & Eve. In a material world there is Positive & Negative, Time & Space, Cause & Effect, Black & White and in this world, Black is just as important and equal to White in the balance of life, there is no world without him as there is no time and space in a non materialistic world.
Remember: ”Only fools are enslaved by time and space” - The enlightened are the ones who are not.
Not meaning to get too religious, but bringing it back to Sci-Fi, Extra-Terrestrial worlds and advanced lifeforms from other worlds are all products of this religious view of God’s materialistic world, The Universe, but maybe a little more advanced than us (illuminated) in their understanding of how the real world works or plays out.
Ergo… I’m still sticking to my original theory ;)
“God Loves you as he Loved Jacob”.
Namaste.
